Invite Students in Google Classroom to a Conference Using Google Calendar
In the time of distance learning, most of the work we, as teachers, do is asynchronous, but in the circumstances where you want to invite students to join you for a Google Meet using Google Classroom, this is a quick video on how you do that:

Khan-Academy Questions
- How can I use Khan Academy with remote learning?
- You can check out their blog here for ideas, resources, and guides. They’ve published a Quick Start Guide and video to help teachers get started.
- Khan Academy has even produced their own “Remote Learning FAQ” (aimed for parents) you can access here.
- Is there a way to schedule a Khan Academy assignment?
- It is a little tricky scheduling assignment. You can find Khan-Academy’s answer about integrating with Google Classroom by clicking here.
- You can't really use the options discussed in the above link if you are going through courses already assigned. In other words, if you go to your teacher dashboard, you will see the course and all its component lessons waiting to be assigned on the right. However, if you simply SEARCH for the topic in Khan Academy, the page will come up with options to share via Google Classroom. If you select that means of sharing, Khan will integrate with Classroom and allow you to create an assignment, questions, etc, which you can then schedule for a later post (as we do now with any Google Classroom assignment, question, etc.) Check out the screen shot--
- If you are looking for additional practice to help students achieve mastery, you can set up course challenges that students work at their own pace. Pat M. does this in English. I assign the entire grammar course on Khan and provide the students with checkpoints [I call them "Khan-Quests"] to help pace students. You can be creative in how you share the mastery challenges. You can find more info on Mastery and Khan Academy here.

- How can I use Closed Captions in general, especially for students who might be hearing impaired?
- If a student is using an IOS device (Ipad, Iphone, etc.), captions can be turned on for video supported apps. More info and instructions here.
Transcribing Voice in Google Docs
How can I transcribe my voice?
Google Docs offers a number of accessibility features. If you click the “tools” drop-down menu, scroll to “Voice Typing,” and this will allow you to create a document with your voice. Helpful link.
Use your sitechhs.com email to sign into YouTube. From there you can upload videos to your own channel and share them with your class. YouTube is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and will allow them to enable Closed Captioning without you having to narrate it yourself manually. You can also make your videos private if you do not want anyone outside of Tech to view them.
Google Classroom Questions
Google Classroom Questions
- What are some teacher-tried tips and tricks for using Google Classroom?
- How can my students upload photos to Google Classroom?
- To allow the ability to upload photos, you must create an “Assignment” under Classwork. Students will then have to either a) Respond on a computer where they can upload the photo directly, OR b) First input the photo as a Google doc and upload the doc to you, OR c) Upload the photo as a public link somewhere (like Imgur) and post the link ← Option C is NOT recommended. - Is there a way to send an email to only the kids who haven't turned in an assignment?
- Yes, Once you open the assignment in the classwork section, click on the assigned number.
Then when it opens scroll down the left side and click the envelope to email those students specifically. See screenshots below.
- How can I communicate with PARENTS via Google Classroom?
- Check out this video about Inviting Guardians to Google Classroom. You can reach out to parents and see if anyone is interested in being added as a guardian. Once guardians accept the invitation, they can select options for how often they want summaries of their child’s work to be sent to them. It’s another way to keep everyone connected, especially with so much going on via Google Classroom.
